Bad design can be as memorable as good design.
Brands have to decide how they want to be remembered.

Portfolio - Brand

Cinch French Patisserie

I was asked to redesign an existing brand (Cinch Bakery) to give it a more sophisticated, upmarket and contemporary look. The client wanted the brand to feel more boutique and specialised while retaining its distinctly french heritage.

We discussed with the advantages of changing the business name from ‘Cinch Bakery’ to ‘Cinch French Patisserie’. This would better clarify their product (pastries, cakes and desserts) while also adding a sense of exclusivity and elegance to the brand.

Cinch

The wallpaper pattern was used to emphasise a French aspect, this was reinforced with the use of a shade of blue reminiscent of silk tulle and antique tableware.

The typefaces used in the brand were chosen for their sophisticated, mature, classical look. However the font used on the logotype (Cinch) was chosen to add a more contemporary, elegant feel. Also with the customisation of key stationary elements the business was given a more personalised, boutique look.

Lady Bug

With this logo design the client wanted something simple and feminine, that hinted at what she did but did not fully reveal it (female private detective).

Also it was quite important that the stationary and business cards contain little, to no details about her or the business, as most of her clients require privacy and anonymity. The client also required a number of customised versions be created (i.e. Private line, pager number, etc…),this was for privacy reasons (anonymity).

The inspiration behind my logo was a wallpaper pattern that I created using illustrator. Part of this pattern was then isolated to be used as the logo.

I wanted the overall brand to feel feminine and sophisticated (pattern element) and yet bold and contemporary (achieved through the use of a bold, dramatic colour).

The square shape of the business card worked best as it framed the logo while adding a sense of uniqueness to the brand. Also an extra thick stock (400gsm) was used so that it would feel solid and genuine to the touch.

Arizona Desert Tours

The client wanted a logo for their new business and they wanted it to have a friendly and inviting feel, while also making them look reliable and established. This was achieved through the circle shape which is reminiscent of an official seal and the woodblock like illustration of a cactus..

An extra playful element was added by the inclusion of a dotted footprint path through the wallpaper pattern of cacti, this reinforces their service of guided tours through the Arizona Desert.

A recycled paperstock and vegetable inks were used to reinforce the organic and environmentally friendly ethos of the company.
